Ancestral fishing

Fishing with timbó is an ancestral practice of the Khisetje people. There is an entire ritual involved in this fishing method. Before releasing the timbó into the water, men first sing at the center of the village. In this photo, children are learning how to pound the timbó—a cultural lesson in rituals and traditional practices. Through this, they learn from an early age how to fish, respect the spirits, care for nature, and protect the environment.
