Before Gaia

An Indigenous person from the Middle Purus River region participates in a meeting at the headquarters of the Federation of Indigenous Organizations and Communities of the Middle Purus (FOCIMP) in Lábrea, southern Amazonas state. Lábrea is on the front line of the so-called “arc of deforestation,” where environmental degradation threatens the edges of the eastern Brazilian Amazon. The Indigenous lands in the region are the main barrier against deforestation but face the increasing impacts of global warming.
