An ancient village inscribed in the Amazonian landscape

The Sol do Alceu Archaeological Site is located on a farm along BR-317, 7 km from Assis Brasil, in Acre, near the tri-border region with Peru (Iñapari) and Bolivia (Bolpebra). Situated on a high plateau between springs and about 2 km from the upper Acre River, the site features a rectangular earthwork structure spanning nearly 1 hectare, surrounded by embankments, likely outlining an ancient Indigenous village. At least 11 radial roads extend from this enclosure, and a semicircular geoglyph surrounds the rectangle, delineating a total area of 16.5 hectares. The photograph was taken with a drone in the early morning hours, using the soft light and shadows to highlight the relief of these impressive earthworks.
