Sailing at the mouth of the Amazon River

The photo was taken in the Bailique Archipelago, a district of Macapá, located at the mouth of the Amazon River, between the Amapá coast and the islands of Pará. To the north, it borders the Araguari River; to the south, the North Channel; and to the east, the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 180 km from downtown Macapá.

In the image, a riverboat—an essential means of transport in riverside regions, especially at the mouth of the Amazon River—cuts through the waters. For many people, life is shaped by the rhythm of the tides and the constant movement of these boats.
