Launch of the Amazon Regional Observatory

The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) launches the Amazon Regional Observatory (ORA) this Wednesday, November 10, 2021, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at its headquarters, in Brasília-DF.

The Amazon Regional Observatory is a Reference Center for Information on the Amazon Region in the areas of Biodiversity, Species Listed in the CITES Convention, Forests, Water Resources and Indigenous Peoples.

Installed at ACTO headquarters, the Observatory promotes access to information and data generated and made available by the eight Member Countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization – Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.

The event will feature the participation of the ACTO General Secretary, Ms. Alexandra Moreira; from the German Ambassador to Brazil, mr. Heiko Thoms, from the Director of KfW in Brazil, mr. Martin Schröder, as well as officials from the Diplomatic Corps based in Brasília and representatives from the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANA) and the National Institute for Special Research (INPE).

The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental organization made up of eight Member Countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. As an intergovernmental organization, ACTO, through its Permanent Secretariat, coordinates procedures within the framework of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (TCA) and streamlines the execution of its decisions. The various dimensions of ACTO action – diplomatic, strategic and technical policy – ​​correspond to the different instances of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty and encourage sustainable development and social inclusion in the Amazon Region.

The event will follow Covid-19’s sanitary standards and prevention safety protocols, with a limited number of guests, mandatory use of masks and social distance.
