Brasília.- On January 27 and 28, 2025, Brasília will host two internationally significant events focused on forest preservation, organized by the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). The initiative, part of the “Model Forest Law” (MoFAI) project, aims to discuss challenges and propose solutions to harmonize the legal protection of forests in the Pan-Amazon biome.
On January 27, the Superior Court of Justice will host the International Roundtable on the Legal Protection of Forests in the Pan-Amazon. The opening will feature prominent leaders such as ACTO’s Executive Director, Vanessa Grazziotin, and Justice Antonio Herman Benjamin of the STJ. The event will bring together judges, diplomats, and experts, including jurist Mariano Castro Sánchez-Moreno, who will address the need for legislative alignment among the region’s countries.
On January 28, ACTO’s headquarters will host a Public Consultation on the Model Forest Law, with the participation of ACTO’s Secretary General, Martin von Hildebrand, and renowned experts. Activities will include discussions on the legal protection of the Amazon, featuring government representatives, scientists, and civil society members.
“These meetings not only highlight the Amazon’s importance as a strategic biome for global climate balance but also emphasize the need for coordinated efforts toward more efficient legislation connected to contemporary challenges,” stated Vanessa Grazziotin.
The event reflects ACTO’s leadership in regional actions aimed at sustainability and the preservation of Amazonian biodiversity. With the presence of high-level authorities and experts, the initiative is expected to advance the development of legislative solutions that contribute to forest conservation and international cooperation.
