With the implementation of the program, ACTO developed several actions within the Amazonian Strategic Cooperation Agenda while boosting particular actions in the countries for the development of their own environmental health surveillance systems.
The program´s objective was to develop national and international coordinated initiatives among the Member Countries to improve the Amazonian populations´ health. Among its main results were: the establishment of four work pilot sites in the border for the environmental health surveillance: Iñapari, Assis (PE, BR); Cobija, Brasileia, Epitaciolândia (BO, BR) Guayaramerín, Guajará-Mirim (BO, BR) and Leticia, Tabatinga (CO, BR).
Another positive action taken was the possibility to create a common space for progress in environmental health issues named “toolbox” which includes the materials produced by the countries as basis to face the challenges in the modification and strengthening of surveillance.
