The Minister Cesar De las Casas will also present some successful initiatives of regional cooperation that the ACTO has developed as the projects: GEF Amazonas and Amazon: Regional Action in the Area of Water Resources.
The GEF Amazonas Project is a successful initiative involving eight Member Countries of the ACTO, a good example of the benefits of regional cooperation at the basin level. This regional action aims to strengthen the institutional framework for the planning and execution of agreed strategic activities for the protection and sustainable management of water resources in the Amazonian Basin in the face of the climate change that the region experiences.
The Amazonas Project was created in the context of South-South Cooperation to strengthen the management of water resources, to promote integration and technical cooperation among the countries. This institutional articulation seeks a greater leveling of the installed capacities of the entities involved with the water resources of the Amazon, through the support to the installation of a hydrometeorology network in the Amazon Basin.
The Second International Forum is held by the National Water Secretariat of Ecuador (SENAGUA) and has the support of the United Nations (UN). This event is part of the commemoration of World Water Day which is remembered on March 22nd.
