The purpose of this agreement is to establish the general bases and conditions for collaboration in the implementation of the strategic guidelines of regional management in health and knowledge management contained in the Amazonian Strategic Cooperation Agenda (ASCA) of ACTO, to promote the sustainable development of the Amazonian countries.
According to the ASCA, the cooperation includes the areas of epidemiological surveillance; environmental health; health management in the border area; technologies for effectiveness and fulfillment of health intervention; cooperation in the development of the Sustainable Development Objectives and work management in other international agreements such as Minamata Convention, among other issues.
According to Joaquín Molina, the representative of PAHO/WHO in Brazil, the signing of the agreement will benefit for Amazon people and it is also the time to strengthen the cooperation ties between two organizations.
The Secretary General of ACTO, Ambassador Maria Jaqueline Mendoza said that the renewal of this partnership represents a major advance in the treatment of health issues in the Amazon Region. She concluded that “We are presenting the will of our countries and we want to further strengthen cooperation and joint growth in this important issue for people of our countries.”
This agreement anticipates the cooperation of PAHO/WHO with the Member Countries of ACTO, the analyses of Amazon from a sanitary point of view and the strengthening of health services in Amazon Region and its border areas, as well as supports in execution of joint activities and projects.
