Amazonian countries had a meeting to discuss about gender issues in the Amazon region

Brasilia, October 23, 2017. – With a purpose of establishing regional guidelines for gender issues addressing the situation of Amazonian women, especially for indigenous peoples in Member Countries, the “Regional Meeting for the development of a regional strategy regarding ACTO gender issues” will be held on October 24 and 25 in Lima, Peru.

Specialists in the topic from Member Countries will participate in this regional meeting expected to be a baseline of initiatives and public policies established in each country at the national and regional level that drive establishment of a regional strategy for gender issues with an intercultural approach.

At the meeting there will be presentations on gender issues addressing international and regional agreements with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and presentations of delegates about the situation of women in the Amazonian lands, national and regional challenges.

At the final session there will be a dialogue to identify regional priorities and develop Regional Action Plan on Gender Issues as well as recommendations and strategic guidelines to be implemented in the Amazonian Strategic Cooperation Agenda (ASCA) and ACTO.
