Representatives of Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardians visit to the ACTO Permanent Secretariat

Brasilia May 02, 2017.- On April 28, the Administrative Director, Antonio Matamoros and the technical team of the ACTO Permanent Secretariat welcomed delegations of Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardians, conformed by Marishöri Najashi Samaniego Pascual, a leader of Ashaninka people of Peru and by Gerd-Peter Bruch, a President of the Planète Amazone organization.

The visit to the headquarters of the PS/ACTO was held with the purpose of knowing the work that the organization has been carrying out in Amazon Region, especially in Indigenous Issues. The delegations were briefed on initiatives that is being developed such as the program “Indigenous People in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact” (PIACI) and the project “Indigenous People in Border Region”, both funded by Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), among other topics.

Moreover, proposals and a recommendation of Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardians to the states and the international community for preservation the climate and future generations were also handed over to SP/ACTO.

During the visit, the Planète Amazone organization raised awareness of the agenda of its activities in Brasilia, such as a holding of an event in October, to strengthen the alliances between indigenous territories and the international organizations that support initiatives in Amazon Region. At this meeting, they hope to work on strategies to encourage these initiatives and to open spaces for dialogue on the energy transition theme and reforestation in the region.

To the end, indigenous representatives are being invited to participate and they hope that the Amazonian countries will support the initiative and the accomplishment of the event.

The Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardians is integrated today by indigenous leaders from sevral countries, including the world-renowned Cacique Raoni Meuktire, leader of Kayapó people of the Brazil and personalities committed to the conservation of environment.
