During the two-days meeting, the Working Group will review a proposal of the long-term financing strategy of the SP/ACTO and reflect on the global scenario for post 2015 funding and opportunities for regional cooperation in the Amazon through the ACTO, and within the framework of Agenda 2030 and the outcomes of the International Conference on Financing for Development. In addition, it is planned to exchange experiences of cooperation in the countries that can be responded by the Organization.
The ACTO is currently in the process of being accredited as an implementing agency of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and it is recently accredited to the Climate and Forests Governors Fund.
Among the expected results are the preparation of a proposition of concrete and feasible measures for the long-term financing of the ACTO; the review and proposal of action in the context of the financing modalities established at the previous meetings; the identification of potential proposals, the funding source in the form of “national execution” and; the development of a matrix of conclusions, which will serve as a basis for future meetings.
The Ad Hoc Working Group met in Brasilia on two occasions, the first on July 15 and 16, 2013, and the second on May 20, 2014. At the second meeting, the working group agreed on a proposal of the long-term financing strategy and submitted it to the consideration of the Amazon Cooperation Council (ACC). The ACC approved it and recommended its submission for approval at the Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, an action is still in progress.
