In the first day of the event, May 14, Alexandra Moreira realized a presentation during the Session “Implementation opportunities and challenges in the region and insights for the post-2020 framework”, jointly with representatives of the FAO, Global Bank, GEF, UNDP and UN Environment.
Her presentation focused on the main axes of ACTO working, highlighted the global importance and the biologic biodiversity richness of the Amazon and indicated the cross-border problem of the Amazon Basin, such as the water contamination, deforestation, biologic loss, hydro-climatic extremes events, and the change of land use, between others. Likewise, she highlighted the principal projects that the ACTO is realizing in the Amazon Region, the current contributions to fulfilling the objectives of AICHI and the futures actions for the sustainable development of the Amazon.
This meeting was attended by the Part representatives participation, other governments, indigenous peoples and local community in the region, as well as the relevant organizations, include organisms and programs of the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations, ONGs, business and financial community, scientific community and academic sector, between others.
The workshop that enclosed the Friday, May 17, was organized by the Secretary of the Convention about the Biodiversity with the orientation of the Co-chairpersons of the working group about the post-2020 Global biodiversity framework and the supervision of the Bureau of the conference of the Parties.
It was expected that the workshop result contributes in the process of post-2020 framework elaboration and negotiation, with the recommendations to the working group about the post-2020 Biodiversity Framework, on the possible initials elements and under the application in the region.
