The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) is participating in the “Amazon Dialogues” from August 4 to 6, at the Hangar Convention Center in Belém (PA).The event precedes the Amazon Summit, scheduled for August 8 and 9, and is attended by the eight heads of state of ACTO member countries. At the end of the meeting, the Belém Declaration will be released, a document that will define the regional agenda in favor of the sustainable development of the Amazon biome.
The “Amazon Dialogues” include activities divided into five plenary sessions organized by the Federal Government, with broad social participation. Each plenary will generate reports to be presented during the Amazon Summit. ACTO will contribute with the delivery of the report on the outcome of the Thematic Table “Cooperation Models and Perspectives for the Protection of Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (PIACI) in the Amazon Region”, which will be on August 5. The following day, the document entitled “Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon: a new inclusive project for the region” will be presented at the Plenary V.
In addition to the theme of indigenous peoples, ACTO participates in the Dialogues with meetings and workshops that address issues related to its areas of activity, such as: promotion of the bioeconomy, technical cooperation for the Amazon region, management of water resources and preservation of biodiversity. In the Hangar, there will be a stand that will publicize the programs and projects carried out. It will also be possible to follow the monitoring of information made available by the Amazon Regional Observatory (ARO) on the Amazon Basin. The ARO is a disruptive platform that integrates official data from the eight member countries of the organization.
