Photography contest inspires reflections on the socioecological transition towards a sustainable future in the Amazon

Sep 5, 2024ACTO

The photography contest For a more-than-human world is open for entries until September 20, 2024. This initiative invites indigenous and non-indigenous photographers to present their works addressing climate action and the conservation of Amazonian sociobiodiversity. The contest seeks to capture a diversity of perspectives, offering an opportunity to depict lifestyles, rituals, spirituality, and the deep connection between these elements and nature, emphasizing the defense of territories.

Prizes of up to 350 euros are offered in the Documentary and Artistic categories.

Selected photos will be exhibited at the 16th United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity (COP CBD-16) in Cali, Colombia, and also in a virtual exhibition on the website of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO).

Inspired by the visions of Davi Kopenawa and Ailton Krenak, the proposal aims to stimulate reflections on urgent issues of our time and contribute to raising awareness about the need for a socioecological transition to ensure a fairer and more balanced future.

The contest was designed between ACTO and the Euroclima program, co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Government through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It also counts on the collaboration of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in partnership with ECLAC and AECID, and the Goethe-Institut.
