At a meeting with the Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Rainforest (AIDESEP), the activities of the Contingency Plan for the Protection of Health of Highly Vulnerable Indigenous Peoples in Initial Contact (ACTO/PAHO/IDB) project were presented. In particular, the technical mission to the Bahuaja Sonene National Park region (Peru-Bolivia border region) and the Palma Real community of the Ese Eja people (Peru) was explained, with the aim of exchanging ideas with indigenous leaders regarding the different early warning mechanisms to face outbreaks and epidemics that may threaten the communities in the region.
For her part, the head of AIDESEP’s Intercultural Health sector, Tabea Cacique and technical advisors of her team, presented the initiative of an event for capacity building of indigenous women agents and promoters, especially for maternal and child health care, among other specialties.
The meeting, which was held at AIDESEP’s offices, was attended by Juan Reátegui from the Permanent Multisectorial Commission of the Ministry of Culture, and also by Carlos Arosquipa, International Consultant of PAHO/SAM.
