*Cali, Colombia, October 25, 2024 – With the goal of deepening regional cooperation and promoting sustainable development in the Amazon, the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and the CIPÓ Platform celebrated the signing of a Letter of Intent at the “Amazon Forever” Pavilion during COP 16 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
The agreement establishes a collaborative framework to implement actions aligned with the objectives of the Belém Declaration, allowing progress on joint initiatives to strengthen technology and knowledge exchange, as well as to foster effective regional dialogue in the face of environmental and social challenges in the region.
During the ceremony, authorities emphasized the importance of this partnership in driving strategic projects that promote sustainability in supply chains and strengthen environmental justice in the Amazon. OTCA and CIPÓ committed to working in a coordinated manner to build comprehensive solutions for the preservation and development of the region.
The signing of this Letter of Intent marks a milestone in cooperation between both entities, underscoring the importance of joining efforts to protect natural resources and support the well-being of Amazonian communities. Through this alliance, OTCA and CIPÓ reaffirm their commitment to supporting policies that integrate traditional knowledge and innovations to conserve biodiversity and build climate resilience in the Amazon.
