Belem Declaration

August 2023

The Belém Declaration, adopted in August 2023 by the eight Member Countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), reaffirms the collective commitment to strengthening regional cooperation for the protection of the Amazon and the promotion of sustainable development in the region. The document consolidates key political guidelines, steering coordinated actions in areas such as climate change, biodiversity, water resources, science and technology, regional integration, and the participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

The result of an intergovernmental dialogue process, the Belém Declaration expresses a shared vision for the future of the Amazon region, aligned with the principles and objectives of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty.

Bogotá Declaration

August 2025

The Bogotá Declaration, adopted in August 2025 by the eight Member Countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), advances the commitments established in the Belém Declaration (2023), consolidating an even more integrated and results-oriented regional agenda. The document reaffirms the political commitment to strengthen Amazon cooperation and outlines strategic guidelines for joint actions in priority areas such as environmental protection, climate change, integrated water resources management, environmental security, sustainable development, scientific and technological innovation, and the participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

As the result of an ongoing intergovernmental coordination process, the Bogotá Declaration represents a new milestone in Amazon governance, expanding the shared vision built in the Belém Declaration and reaffirming the principles and objectives of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty.
