ACTO and FAO will promote joint actions

Brasilia, Oct. 4th, 2019 –The  executive director of the ACTO, Ambassador Carlos Alfredo Lazary, received today, at the headquarters of the ACTO, a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

By the FAO, the FAO Rome forestry director, Hiroto Mitsugi, the FAO Brazil representative, Rafael Zavala, the assistant of the FAO Brazil representative, Gustavo Kauart Chianca and the program officer, Marcelo Broggio, participated.

At the meeting, ACTO and FAO agreed to promote joint efforts in the field of agricultural forest management, committing to develop activities for capacity building in sustainable and integrated forest management, including forest and agricultural fire management.

They also talked about the identification of priority issues, within the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in mid-year. The forestry issues addressed in the Action Plan to be developed within the framework of the MoU are of vital importance. Among them, Forest Fires and Agro Forestry stand out. On the first issue, FAO Rome is preparing a concept note.

Meanwhile, FAO Rome Forestry Director Hiroto Mitsugi extended his invitation to the Secretary General, Alexandra Moreira, to participate in the next meeting of the 25th Committee on Forestry (COFO), which will be held in June 2020, in Rome.

Also, the administrative director, César de Las Casas, the advisor on forestry issues, Carlos Salinas and the officials of the Technical Support Unit (UTA) participated in the meeting by ACTO.
