The Attorney General of the Nation of Colombia, Mrs. Margarita Cabello Blanco, paid an official visit to the headquarters of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO). During her visit, key topics were discussed related to intervention in administrative and judicial processes, the protection of human rights and the environment, the prevention of violations, and oversight in the Amazon region.
In her remarks, the Attorney General highlighted three priority areas for her office: combating deforestation, illegal mining, and the energy transition. These topics are of vital importance for environmental conservation and sustainable development in the Amazon region.
The Attorney General’s Office of Colombia, committed to the protection of the environment and human rights, has an observatory dedicated to these issues. During the visit, the intention to integrate this observatory with ACTO’s Amazon Regional Observatory (ORA) was mentioned, aiming to strengthen cooperation and information exchange between the institutions.
Additionally, the possibility of organizing a space at COP 16 of the CBD led by ACTO was discussed, bringing together representatives from the attorney general’s offices of ACTO member countries. This space would serve as a platform to share experiences, best practices, and coordinate efforts to address the issues affecting the Amazon region.
ACTO and the Attorney General’s Office of Colombia reaffirm their commitment to the protection of the environment and human rights and will continue to work together to face the challenges the Amazon region encounters.
