Colombia reaffirms its commitment to the Amazon during visit to ACTO

Brasilia, July 25. – In a clear show of commitment to regional conservation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Luis Murillo, made an official visit today to the headquarters of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) in Brasilia. Along with the
ambassadors of the eight ACTO member countries, Foreign Minister Murillo highlighted the crucial role of the Amazon in preserving the global ecological balance and the urgent need for regional collaboration to address environmental challenges.

Vanessa Grazziotin, Executive Director of ACTO, and Edith Paredes, Administrative Director, welcomed Foreign Minister Murillo, emphasizing the importance of this visit to move forward the common objectives of conservation and integral development of the Amazon region. In their speeches, both directors highlighted the need for joint and coordinated action to face the environmental and socioeconomic challenges that affect the Amazon and its inhabitants.

Foreign Minister Murillo highlighted the crucial role of ACTO in the preservation of the Amazon. He also stated the Colombian government's strong commitment to protecting the Amazon, highlighting the country's environmental policies and recent achievements in reducing deforestation.

Besides, Murillo pointed out the importance of the Amazon not only for Colombia, but for the entire world.
