Brasilia, July 08, 2016.-In the city of Lima, Peru, on 6 and 7 July 2016, the Regional Dialogue was held: “Opportunities for Cooperation to Confront Climate Change.” The event held by the Permanent Secretariat of the ACTO (Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization) aimed to initiate a dialogue to identify the challenges and opportunities for regional cooperation, linked to the commitments made by the Member Countries in the Paris Agreement and to collect inputs for the formulation of a work plan on the theme of climate change, which guides the formulation of projects and financing by SP / ACTO.

The dialogue was carried out in three stages: a) presentations made by specialists in the theme; B) presentations by the participating delegations that highlighted opportunities and challenges for Amazon Cooperation based on national experiences; And c) regional dialogue to identify priorities for action and regional cooperation projects.

After two working days, the Member Countries identified priorities for action in the formulation of regional cooperation projects based on four axes: A. Integral management of natural resources and biodiversity; B. Production systems and ecosystem services / environmental functions; C. Integral land management; And, D. Capacity-building and exchange of experience. These axes would be cut transversally by global mechanisms, such as the UNFCCC, the Paris Agreement, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and means of implementation.

Finally, SP/ACTO was supported to continue the accreditation process with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) as a regional implementation agency.

The meeting was also supported by the Amazon Regional Program (ARP), and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Environment of Peru.
