Experiences on the surveillance of indigenous health will be discussed at a technical meeting

Brasília, May 08, 2017.-Technicians and experts on indigenous issues and indigenous health in the ACTO Member Countries, indigenous representatives and those of civil society will participate in a workshop to be held in Brasília, Brazil, from May 15 to 18, to exchange information and experiences on the surveillance of health in the near regions where isolated indigenous peoples live and in initial contact.

Participants will present specific cases of health care situations after contact with isolated people, taking into account contingency plans and prevention methods.

The “Regional Workshop for the exchange of information and experiences of health protection of the PIACI” is part of the second phase of the project “Indigenous Peoples in Border Regions of the ACTO”, and the program “Strategic Framework for the Elaboration of a Regional Agenda of Protection” of Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (PIACI).

This meeting is sponsored by the government of Brazil, represented by the Ministry of Health and the Special Secretariat of Indigenous Health (Sesai), and with the participation of the National Indian Foundation (Funai). It also has the support of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) and the financing of the ACTO / IDB agreement.
