The Resolution A/RES/63/278 of the United Nations (UN) designates April 22 as International Mother Earth Day. It also recognizes that the Earth and its ecosystems are our home and that in order to achieve a just balance among the economic, social, and environmental needs of present and future generations, it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth.

In this sense, the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) welcomes the aforementioned Resolution A/RES/63/278 and values the work that the UN is carrying out within its framework. The Permanent Secretariat will be attentive to the important outcomes derived from the Interactive Dialogue held on April 24, 2023, which aims to discuss the possibility of convening a high-level meeting provisionally entitled “Assembly of the Earth,” to be held on April 22, 2024.

From the Amazon Region, the 8 Member Countries of the ACTO are working on a series of actions to promote the harmonious management of their respective Amazonian territories, so that these joint actions produce equitable and mutually beneficial results, as well as for the preservation of the environment and the conservation and rational use of the natural resources of these territories.
