Professionals in hydrology will be trained in water discharge measurement in large rivers

Brasilia, 21 August 2018 – The “17th International Course of Water discharge measurement in large rivers: measurement techniques” will be held from August 23 to September 1, in the city of Manaus and Manacapuru, Brazil and will be provided to professionals of water resource and environmental management agencies of South America, who are directly involved in the field of measuring and calculating water discharge in rivers.

The objective of this initiative is to promote the qualification of professionals in the field of water resources from Brazil, the other Member Countries of the Amazon Basin, as well as other regions of the South American continent, in the techniques and methodologies used for the measurement and calculation of water discharge in large rivers, seeking their standardization and diffusion, and contributing to the diffusion and application of flow measurement techniques in the participating countries, enabling the multiplication of this model in the countries of the region.

The course is organized by Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM) jointly with National Water Agency of Brazil (ANA) and supported by “Amazon Project: regional action in the field of water resources”. They also have the organization of Brazilian institutions such as the National Hydrometeorological Network, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Collaborating institutions: Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), University of the State of Amazonas (UEA), Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), Hydrometric Ltda., COHIDRO: consulting, studies and projects, Secretary of State for Environment of the Amazon (SEMA) and Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC / MRE).
