The CoRAmazonía Project strengthens cooperation among the eight ACTO Member Countries for the sustainable management of natural resources and the protection of Amazonian ecosystems. The initiative promotes technical and scientific cooperation, exchange of experiences, and the strengthening of national capacities to address challenges related to fire management and forest conservation in the region.

Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the project is implemented by the Permanent Secretariat of ACTO and forms part of the Biosphere Program, which integrates global actions on biodiversity, climate, and forests.

Objective

To improve the implementation of regional cooperation programs aimed at forest protection and the sustainable management of natural resources, reinforcing ACTO’s role as a regional mechanism for coordination and political dialogue.

  • Regional Integration: creation and strengthening of joint mechanisms for Integrated Fire Management (IFM) among Amazonian countries.
  • Capacity Development: strengthening of technical and institutional competencies of authorities and specialists in the region.
  • Innovation and Knowledge: dissemination of innovative approaches and best practices in fire management, incorporating traditional knowledge and a gender perspective.
  • Amazonian Network of Specialists in Integrated Fire Management (RAMIF): a regional platform connecting specialists and institutions from the eight countries to implement joint actions in fire prevention, control, and sustainable use.
  • Forest Fire Module of the Amazon Regional Observatory (ARO): a regional tool for monitoring, analysis, and decision support.
  • Regional Strategies: development of training, communication, and sustainable financing plans linked to Integrated Fire Management (IFM).

CoRAmazonía generates synergies with regional and global projects such as:

  • Amazonía+ (European Union): regional cooperation for forest protection and biodiversity conservation.
  • EuroLAC (EU): strengthening knowledge networks on fire management.
  • FIRE (USAID): promoting technical training and innovative solutions for wildfire management.
  • COSUDE (Switzerland): strengthening fire management governance in the Andean region.
