The ACTO works in the development, improvement, strengthening and interoperability of national and regional information and knowledge management systems

The Component 1 of the Organization of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACTO) Bioamazon Project, aims to “Elaborate a conceptual and operational study for the development, improvement, strengthening and interoperability of national information and knowledge management systems in the ACTO Member Countries, as well as the design of the conceptual and operational configuration of the ACTO Information and Knowledge Management System (SIGC), in support of the Amazon Regional Observatory (ARO).”

The consultancy for the realization of these studies was awarded through an international competition to the firm Excelencia Corporativa (EXCO). This important work initiated on July 15, hand in hand and through a joint effort and commitment of the Authorities, officials and expert delegates of the Permanent Secretariat and of the ACTO Member Countries – National Coordinating Institutions, implementers and beneficiaries of the Project through the Focal Points, the experts involved in the development of the ARO, the Network of Amazonian Research Centers – RedCIA, related Working Groups and other experts who support them.

We share the initial actions of this important challenge: the integral conceptual design of the SIGC and its interoperability with the systems of the Member Countries.

In Brasilia during the week of August 6 to 9, EXCO members held work sessions, meetings and interviews with the Directors of the PS / ACTO, with the technical, administrative and expert advisory officials of the different areas, as well as with the experts involved in the development activities of the ORA, the information systems of national, regional projects and related platforms.

The work focused on the review of the history of ACTO and its processes of institutionalization and information management, as well as the background of the ARO, in order to contribute to the conceptualization of the ACTO´s SIGC and design an effective management model of ARO, taking into account trends and challenges of information and interoperability, adding efforts and previous work.

Important learning, reflections, discussions and expectations were generated for the construction of an innovative, modern, technological system that contributes to the public management and challenges of the Amazonian countries and the Organization.

The meeting with the firm Excelencia Corporativa began with a presentation on the history, mission, structure and activities of ACTO by Ambassador Carlos Lazary, Executive Director of the PS / ACTO.
