High-officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Brazil along with the Secretary-General of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (PS/ACTO) held on October 30 the first Seminar for the development of joint work agenda between Korea and ACTO.
The purpose of the Seminar “Korea Amazonian Cooperation and ACTO” organized by the two bodies was a to have a first approach and to evaluate possible cooperation proposals for the Amazon Region.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Chan Woo Kim and the Secretary-General of the PS/ACTO, Alexandra Moreira, opened the seminar expressing their satisfaction for the realization of the meeting with perspectives of a joint work alliance.
The Executive Director of the PS/ACTO, Ambassador Carlos Alfredo Lazary, presented the Organization and its main activities briefly, highlighting the projects carried out in the different areas of activity.
For his part, the PS/ACTO’s Advisor, Diego Pacheco, presented the possible cooperation areas between ACTO and Korea, highlighting the actions conducted in the health area devoted to the strengthening of national health services with an emphasis on tropical diseases for the most vulnerable people in the Amazon Region; and in the areas of production and energy, the promotion of sustainable production systems and access to renewable energy sources for the generation of electricity in urban and rural areas of the Amazon Region.
Furthermore, the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Choi Doo Won, gave a presentation about the Korean Environmental Policy.
The event was attended by the following officials of the Embassy of Korea: Minister Lee Jang, Counselor Choi Wonseok, Secretary Yoo Soo-Ah, Secretary Lee Hyeran, Commercial Attaché Kim Hyunjin, and Economic Advisor Rafael Kimby.
On behalf of the PS/ACTO the event was attended by the Administrative Director Carlos Salinas, the Coordinator of the Bioamazonia Project Mauro Ruffino, the Consultant Fernando Cisneros, the Administrator of the Bioamazonia Project Sergio Paz Soldán, Executive Assistant Priscilla del Carpio, and the trainees Kim Dongheyon and Oh Heayeon.
