The Contest Discovering the Amazon is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil (MoFA), in collaboration with the National Water Agency (ANA), the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI).
Its objective is to help public school students and their teachers, family and friends to learn on the characteristics of the Amazon region, understand the importance of tropical forest and learn how they can contribute to its protection and sustainable development.
The topic “Water: connection between peoples and regional cooperation for sustainable development of the Amazon”, was the theme of the first edition in 2015. Water as source of life and means for development and regional cooperation earned more prominence in teaching materials prepared specially for the contest.
