During the side event, ACTO will present the activities of the Monitoring Forest Cover in the Amazon Region Project, such as the four regional deforestation maps produced. The maps show the regional effort for the preservation of Amazonian forests. They were produced from information generated by the Observation Rooms (OR) installed in ACTO Member Countries and systematized at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE).
SP/ACTO will also take the opportunity to address issues such as the other regional products of the OR and the expansion of the INPE training program for professionals in Member Countries. ACTO is composed by Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
The UNFF meets every two years the main forestry authorities, the decision-making body of the Monitoring Project actions. The participation of SP / ACTO in the Forum allows evaluating the Project achievements in the countries. Currently, the Amazonian Fund of the Brazil’s National Bank of Economic and Social Development (BNDES) finances the Monitoring Project.
