Lima Declaration on illegal wildlife trade recognizes the cooperation of ACTO

The Lima Declaration was accepeted by 21 countries participating in the First High Level Conference of the Americas on Illegal Wildlife Trade held on October 3 and 4. The event organized by SERFOR and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru provided two days of excellent presentations and spaces for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, formulation of proposals for the adoption of measures for the regional combat of this crime that threatens biodiversity, the environment and the security of the states.

The declaration, which recognizes the cooperation of several international institutions in the fight against wildlife trafficking, including ACTO, has 21 measures that will strengthen this fight. The commitment to the strengthening of public institutions dedicated to this fight, support for actions that reduce the demand for wildlife and its products from illegal traffic and the development of strategies in this regard, as well as make use of new technologies and innovative tools to facilitate the identification and control of illegal trade in species is highlighted.
