Lima, Peru, July 8, 2026 – The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), within the framework of the Amazon Network for Integrated Fire Management (RAMIF), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru and the CoRAmazonia Project, is promoting the Training Course on “Fire Behavior Analysis,” taking place from July 6 to 10, 2026, at the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM).
The training is part of the efforts carried out under the RAMIF framework, particularly its capacity-building component, which aims to promote the exchange of experiences, technical training, and knowledge management among ACTO Member Countries to advance Integrated Fire Management (IFM) in the Amazon region.
The course seeks to strengthen the technical capacities of professionals involved in wildfire prevention, management, and response, with an emphasis on fire behavior prediction, technical advisory support in multi-agency emergency operations centers, and support for extended wildfire suppression operations. The training is conducted in person and combines theoretical lectures, practical exercises, and applied simulations.
During the opening session, ACTO was represented by Carlos Salinas, Environment Coordinator, who emphasized that RAMIF is a key mechanism for strengthening national and regional capacities, promoting IFM through knowledge exchange, joint preparedness, and interinstitutional coordination in response to increasingly complex wildfires across the Amazon region. César Aréstegui, Director of Amazon Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, highlighted ACTO’s work in promoting technical cooperation among its Member Countries.
In addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru and the CoRAmazonia Project of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), the training is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Global Fire Management Hub, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Through this activity, ACTO reaffirms its commitment to implementing the RAMIF Work Plan, strengthening regional capacities, and consolidating an Amazon-wide agenda for technical cooperation on wildfire prevention, preparedness, and response.
