In commemoration of the 43rd anniversary of the signing of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACT), the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) will hold the launch webinar the Regional Program of Biological Diversity for the Amazon Basin/Region. This initiative, which is the result of dialogue and the search for a common vision of cooperation among ACTO Member Countries.
The 8 Member Countries of the ACTO in compliance with their mandates, and under a commitment to cooperation and contribution, worked hard during the 2020 and 2021 management, in the search, construction and agreement of a common vision to guide and manage the conservation and sustainable use of Amazonian biodiversity. As a result of this effort, the Regional Program of Biological Diversity for the Amazon Basin/Region was approved on May 21, 2021.
The program will be the guiding framework for regional cooperation for the conservation and sustainable use of Amazonian biodiversity and will begin with a scientific evaluation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Amazon Region, which is carried out in accordance with the methodology of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
This regional initiative is supported of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the ACTO Biomaz Project, a partnership between ACTO and the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development, through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
