With the aim of achieving coordination and cooperation among the local health services in the triple border region of Peru (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Acre), and Bolivia (Pando) for the protection of the health of Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (PIACI), a tri-national meeting will be held on March 27 and 28 in Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil.
This meeting is being held as a part of the project Contingency plans for health protection of highly vulnerable Indigenous Peoples and in Initial Contact (ACTO/PAHO/IDB), with the participation of representatives from local and national governments, indigenous organizations, and civil society from these three countries.
The participation of the Brazilian Ministry of Indigenous Peoples is noteworthy, represented by the Secretary of Indigenous Environmental and Territorial Rights, Eunice Kerexu; the Head of the Division of Indigenous Peoples of Acre, Francisca Araja; and the Director of Indigenous Policies of the Secretary of State for Environment and Indigenous Policies (SEMAPI) of Acre, Nedina Yawanawa.
