The to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is causing a major impact in the Amazon countries, compelling them to redouble efforts in facing this unprecedented health emergency.  The Amazon Region border areas are remote and of difficult access, requiring thus additional engagement by authorities and by society as a whole in order to cover their fundamental needs, especially to guarantee basic health services for the most vulnerable populations that inhabit those areas.

The ACTO, as a regional intergovernmental organization, places itself at the disposal of the MC to collaborate in the search for support from potential international public and/or private donors, either through financial contributions or direct donations of personal protection sets and hospital medical equipment.

The objective is to channel this support towards the strengthening of local health services in the Amazon Region, for the care of the most vulnerable populations and especially of the Indigenous Peoples of the border areas.

The PS/ACTO, in the framework of its traditional and proven joint work and regional coordination, could act together with the Governments of the ACTO MC, through the respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Ministries of Health, to contact and mobilize the greatest possible number of institutions potentially interested in providing this type of support in this emergency.

For this dissemination work to be more effective, it will be necessary to receive from each country, a detailed list of the essential items required for their respective border areas in the Amazon Region, as well as the contact information of the national entities responsible for receiving donations.

The national requirement lists will be forwarded directly to the potential interested parties and also made available in ACTO’s website and social networks.
