Sep 30, 2024ACTO

The Second Regional Dialogue Meeting on Progress and Challenges in the Construction of the Amazon Regional Platform of Indigenous Peoples, organized by OTCA in collaboration with the Euroclima Program, will be held from October 1 to 4, 2024, in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

This meeting aims to share the progress made in creating the Platform, a space for integrating indigenous knowledge into climate action in the Amazon region.

The event aligns with the commitments of the Declaration of Belém and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Topics such as the climate resilience of indigenous peoples, the protection of their territories, access to financing, and the execution of the Amazon Platform will be discussed.

The Regional Strategy on Indigenous Peoples and Climate Change (ERPICC) and progress on the construction of a submodule on indigenous peoples and climate change will also be presented, which will propose the visualization of indicators related to the vulnerability of indigenous peoples to climate change. These tools are key to strengthening indigenous participation in public policies related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

This event is part of OTCA’s efforts to implement the decisions of the Declaration of Belém, promoting the participation of indigenous peoples in climate decision-making and ensuring their effective inclusion in public policies in the region.

During the four days of work, key topics such as the protection of indigenous territories and access to funding for projects that strengthen the resilience of these communities to climate change will be addressed. Additionally, the Regional Strategy on Indigenous Peoples and Climate Change (ERPICC) will be presented, which will guide the actions of the Amazon Platform in defending indigenous rights and knowledge.

The event is expected to see the participation of more than 40 in-person representatives from OTCA member countries, as well as international experts and representatives from cooperation agencies.
