Grant Objective: To promote the active and effective participation of Indigenous Peoples and local–traditional communities in governance and sustainable management processes in the Amazon, within the framework of the priorities established in the Belém Declaration.

This grant strengthens the role of Indigenous Peoples in decision-making processes and environmental management in the Amazon.
The project directly supports the Amazonian Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples (MAPI), consolidating it as a space for dialogue, coordination, and cooperation between Indigenous representatives from the Amazonian countries and ACTO.

The initiative integrates regional efforts to consolidate participatory Amazonian governance, in line with the priorities defined in the Belém (2023) and Bogotá (2025) Declarations, which emphasize the importance of inclusion, dialogue, and joint action for the sustainable development of the region.

General Objective

To promote the active and effective participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in governance, conservation, and sustainable development processes in the Amazon, recognizing their role as guardians of the biome and key actors in the management of natural resources.

  • Capacity Strengthening: technical and institutional support to enhance the representation of Indigenous and community leaders in decision-making spaces.
  • Effective Participation: creation and consolidation of representation and dialogue mechanisms at national and regional levels.
  • Intercultural Dialogue: promotion of cooperation spaces among governments, institutions, and Indigenous organizations, integrating traditional knowledge into environmental and climate management.

The project is implemented by the Permanent Secretariat of ACTO, with technical support from Expertise France and funding from the European Union (EU).
