Fire management in the Amazon is one of the region’s greatest socio-environmental challenges. Frontiers of Fire presents a technical and informational synthesis on the history, uses, dynamics, and transformations of fire across Amazonian countries, highlighting its cultural, ecological, and territorial dimensions.
The document is the result of joint work by the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and GIZ through the CoRAmazonia project (BMZ/COSUDE), with the support of various strategic partners in the region.
The publication outlines the main drivers behind the increase in fires, their impacts on biodiversity and livelihoods, and examines how Integrated Fire Management (IFM) can contribute to sustainable responses by integrating traditional knowledge, science, and territorial governance.
