Brasília, March 24, 2017. – The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) will hold the 4th Meeting of Forest Authorities of the Member Countries, on March 30 and 31, in the Brokopondo city, Suriname, with the participation of specialist in the subject.
The initial activity of the meeting will be the evaluation of the main actions of the sub-theme: Forest, of the Strategic Agenda of Amazon Cooperation, considering its revision in 2017, in accordance with the objectives of the Agenda 2030 for the Sustainable Development and the AICHI Goals.
Plenary sessions will also be held to discuss the expectations, opinions and views of each Member Country on the future of the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF) and to organize the participation of the SP / ACTO in the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF12), which will take place in May in New York.
In the meeting, it is expected that there will be presentations on project activities: Monitoring of Forest Coverin the Amazon Region and Institutional strengthening of the ACTO member countries in ecologically responsible forest management and biodiversity conservation in managed forests of the Amazon (ITTO/CBD/ACTO).
To conclude the day, the revisions of the minutes, conclusions and final agreements of the Meeting of Forest Authorities III will be carried out.
