The ACTO organize a side event on PIACI during the 16th Session of the UNPFII

Brasília, April 19, 2017-The permanent secretariat of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (SP/OTCA) will hold, on April 26, the side event: Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact in the Amazon Region, during the 16th Session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues of the UN (UNPFII), that will be held in New York, from 24 April to May 5.

In the side event, the ACTO will present the activities of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation program and in Initial Contact (PIACI, Povos Indígenas em Isolamento Voluntário e em Contato Inicial), as well as the Indigenous Peoples in Frontier Regions project, both funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

On this occasion, it will also be released the importance of the Guidelines for the Protection of the PIACI, the Guidelines and Principles for the attention of the health of the PIACI and the first draft of the Guidelines for Exchange of Information about Traditional Knowledge as a Contribution to the Life Plans and The Management of Diversity, in Indigenous Communities, and other important results acquired by the ACTO/BID agreement.

As an “observer”, for the first time, in this Forum, the ACTO/SP has the purpose of being informed about the advances in indigenous rights and publicizing the efforts in Amazon region that is being carried out through the ACTO.
