The Organization presented progress in regional cooperation on sustainable forest management, integrated fire management, and monitoring of Amazonian forests.

Brasilia, October 1, 2026. – The Permanent Secretariat of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (PS/ACTO), represented by its Environment Coordinator, Carlos Salinas, participated on Thursday as a panelist in the dialogue “COP30 Roadmap: Dialogue on Halting and Reversing Deforestation and Forest Degradation,” a space dedicated to exchanging contributions on the roadmap to halt and reverse deforestation and forest degradation.

During the meeting, the COP30 Presidency presented the scope, structure, lines of action, and progress of the roadmap, and gathered observations and contributions from different stakeholders for the version to be presented at COP31.

In his intervention, Carlos Salinas shared the regional cooperation experience of ACTO’s eight Member Countries in addressing deforestation and forest degradation in the Amazon. In particular, he highlighted the role of the Amazonian Network of Forest Authorities (RAFO) in building a regional forest agenda that brings together conservation, sustainable forest management, restoration, and economic opportunities for Amazonian populations.

He also presented the experience of the Amazonian Network for Integrated Fire Management (RAMIF), which promotes regional coordination on prevention, preparedness, capacity building, and mutual assistance. This cooperation is essential for addressing fire as one of the factors associated with forest degradation and strengthening regional capacities for integrated fire management.

Salinas also highlighted the role of the Amazonian Regional Observatory (ARO) as a tool to support monitoring, generate comparable analyses, strengthen early warning systems, and contribute to decision-making on forests, forest degradation, fire, water, and other pressures relevant to the Amazon region.

ACTO’s participation contributed concrete experiences of cooperation among the Amazonian countries and established regional mechanisms to address shared challenges to the dialogue on the COP30 roadmap. For the ACTO Member Countries, Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) is a central mechanism for the conservation and sustainable use of Amazonian forests.
