The 18th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP18) will be held in Quito, Ecuador, in 2028. The selection of the host country was announced during the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17), held in Yerevan, Armenia, where the participating delegations decided on the venue for the next edition of the conference.

The Conference of the Parties is the main decision-making body of the Convention on Biological Diversity. It brings together representatives of the signatory countries to assess progress, discuss challenges, and establish guidelines for biodiversity conservation, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources.

Hosting COP18 in Ecuador represents an opportunity to expand international dialogue on biodiversity protection, particularly in light of the challenges facing ecosystems and the need to strengthen cooperation among countries.

Given its environmental and strategic importance, the Amazon region plays a significant role in international discussions on biodiversity conservation. In this context, the conference also represents an important forum for the eight Member Countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), which share challenges and responsibilities related to the protection and sustainable use of the Amazon’s natural heritage.
