The Amazon contains the largest tropical forest and the greatest biological diversity on the planet.

Protecting its forests is essential to conserve the climate, life, and environmental balance of the region.

This axis aims to prevent and reverse deforestation, conserve biodiversity, and restore the ecological integrity of the biome by promoting sustainable forest management, restoration of degraded areas, and regional cooperation among Amazonian countries, while recognizing the central role of Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities in managing and conserving the biome.

Lines of action

  • Consolidate the Amazon Alliance to Combat Deforestation, strengthening joint actions and integrated policies among countries.
  • Implement ACTO’s Amazon Forest Program, promoting forest conservation, restoration, and sustainable use.
  • Establish and strengthen the Amazonian Network of Forestry Authorities (RAFO) to coordinate policies, exchange experiences, and harmonize legislation.
  • Promote the ecological restoration of degraded areas, prioritizing ecosystem connectivity and the recovery of Amazonian landscapes.
  • Integrate forest management actions with the Amazonian Network for Integrated Fire Management (RAMIF), reinforcing prevention, control, and recovery of fire-affected areas.
  • Value traditional and scientific knowledge, encouraging sustainable practices that reconcile conservation and development.
  • Strengthen the fight against environmental crimes, including illegal wildlife and timber trafficking and other activities that threaten Amazonian ecosystems.
