The Amazon’s climate is strongly influenced by interactions between the atmosphere and the oceans, particularly the Atlantic. Ocean warming and changes in circulation systems, such as the weakening of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), are altering rainfall patterns and increasing the risk of droughts. These shifts threaten the stability of the Flying Rivers, which regulate precipitation across South America. Climate projections indicate rising temperatures and reduced rainfall, heightening ecological and socio-economic vulnerabilities. Strengthening scientific cooperation and integrating climate data into public policies are essential to support adaptation, mitigation, and regional resilience in the Amazon.
