The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) invites Surinamese professionals to apply for the position of National Technical Assistant Consultant under the project “Towards a Better Understanding of Amazonian Aquifer Systems for their Protection and Sustainable Management” (GEF ID 11108). The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serving as implementing agencies.

The consultancy will support the implementation of the project in Suriname by strengthening coordination between the Project Coordination Unit (PCU), the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), and the National Execution Agency (NEA). The selected consultant will contribute to the technical and administrative implementation of activities aimed at improving the sustainable management of Amazonian Aquifer Systems.

Main responsibilities

The selected consultant will be responsible for, among other activities:

  • Supporting the planning and operational implementation of the AAS Project at the national level.
  • Providing technical, administrative and logistical support to the National Execution Agency.
  • Assisting in the management and monitoring of national pilot projects.
  • Supporting the preparation of technical and financial reports.
  • Organizing meetings, workshops, technical missions and monitoring activities.
  • Facilitating coordination between national institutions, the PCU and other ACTO initiatives.
  • Supporting communication, knowledge management and project implementation activities.

Required qualifications

Applicants should meet, among others, the following requirements:

  • University degree in civil engineering, geology, geography, environmental engineering or related fields.
  • Specialization in project management related to water resources, natural resources or territorial management.
  • At least three years of professional experience in water resources projects or initiatives.
  • Experience with the national institutional framework related to water resources.
  • Experience in organizing meetings, workshops and project implementation activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to systematize information, manage data and work collaboratively with different stakeholders.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English or Spanish.

Duration and remuneration

The consultancy will have a duration of 12 months and will be based in Suriname. The consultant will work closely with the National Execution Agency and the Project Coordination Unit.

The consultancy fee is USD 1,500 per month, including insurance, taxes and relocation expenses related to the provision of services.
