The Amazon Project strengthens cooperation among the eight Amazonian countries for the shared and sustainable management of the Amazon Basin’s water resources.

The initiative promotes integrated water monitoring, information exchange, and strengthening of national technical capacities, supporting evidence-based decision-making and regional water governance.

Objective

To promote the integrated and sustainable management of water resources in the Amazon by expanding the regional monitoring network, developing technical capacities, and sharing data and best practices among countries.

  • Installation and modernization of hydrological and telemetric stations across the Amazonian countries.
  • Implementation of the Amazon Hydrological Network (AHR) and the Regional Water Quality Monitoring Network (RWQMN).
  • Technical training for professionals and national institutions in water resources monitoring and management.
  • Development of hydrometeorological early warning systems and regional protocols for the prevention of extreme events.
  • Strengthened regional water governance in the Amazon Basin.
  • Integrated and standardized data to support public policy-making.
  • National institutions better prepared and connected through a regional network.
  • Enhanced resilience to droughts, floods, and climate change impacts.

The project is implemented by the Permanent Secretariat of ACTO, with the support of the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA), the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC/MRE), and the national water agencies of the Member Countries.
