The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed World Wildlife Day on March 3 to celebrate and raise awareness of the diversity of wildlife in the world.
The date commemorates the day of the signing of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973. With 183 Parties (182 countries + European Union), CITES is one of the instruments for the conservation of wildlife through the regulation of international trade in more than 38,000 species of wild animals and plants.
